Tips For Avoiding Autumn Drainage Issues

Autumn is almost here, when it arrives your drains are going to see all sorts of different issues which can be avoided if you know what you’re looking for. We’re always here to help, and as usual, we’ve got some tips for avoiding the worst, such as blocked drains.

When we’re talking about drains we’re talking about the ones outside so if you have your own property along with responsibility for the drains, this is for you. However, even if you rent and you don’t have sole responsibility for the drains outside, it still pays to be vigilant and pass on all concerns to your landlord, if you know what to be aware of, even better!

Leaves

With autumn on the horizon so with it comes falling leaves, wind and rain. Beautiful fallen leaves become soggy leaves that will clog your drains, and there’s no easy way to get rid of them other than getting your hands dirty and clearing them away manually. Make sure your drains are cleared regularly, this way you’ll have less chance of having a blocked drain. Always make sure you wear gloves, you don’t want to be scratched or touch something that may cause an infection or injury.

Vacuum

Fancy using something more powerful than simply using your hands? Why not try a vacuum? There are vacuums that are specifically designed to be used to clear out drains, we’re not talking traditional vacuum cleaners here! They’re designed to be used outdoors and are powerful enough to suck up any debris and those pesky autumn leaves, that way your drains are nice and clear. If you live near some trees and this is a problem you’re dealing with each and every year, then a vacuum may be better than just clearing it up with your hands.

Prevention

There are some other preventative measures you can take to help keep your drains clear this autumn. You can buy drain guards which are particularly useful at stopping your drains from becoming clogged. Drain guards come in different sizes and shapes and are a worthwhile investment if you choose ones which are of good quality. What a drain guard will do is provide a preventative measure so leaves don’t get into your system and cause a blockage. Again, for those living near tree lined streets or near a heavily occupied wooded area, these drains will be really helpful.

Recycle

Remember leaves are great and you shouldn’t just toss them in the garbage. Leaves can provide great compost and can be added to an existing compost heap or used towards creating a new one. If you don’t do anything about autumn debris such as leaves, and possibly broken off branches and anything else the wind blows your way, then eventually you will have a blockage and that will be a costly affair to rectify, involving the use of professional drain specialists.
